Week 10 Reflection

  1. First of all, I can’t believe this was the last school week in October! I guess it’s true what they say…time flies when you’re having fun! The main thing that I have been thinking about this week is just how I have had such an amazing learning experience so far. I have met wonderful teachers to look up to and I hope to emulate. I have learned there are many ups and downs to teaching, but the end result is the most amazing of all. I know it is only half way through, but knowing it is the beginning of November has made me reflect on the overall experience up to this point. I am sad to think I will only be in the classroom full-time for only a few more weeks—but that’s a few more weeks to embrace and experience even more.

Another thing that stuck out to me this week was the mannerisms of student’s right before a holiday. It was quite interesting to see the change in behaviors. They became more excited, sometimes more off-task, a little more talkative, more well… everything! All behaviors are amped up about 20 times their normal. On some days it’s a good thing and easy to keep them interested and use that energy to your advantage and other days it becomes a challenge to keep them on task and involved in the lessons. It was a big challenge and something I look back on a think I can adjust and handle differently. I think it will be one of those things that vary with each group of students, but something I am now more prepared to handle and be cautious of.

  2. Not only do their behaviors change around holidays, but watch the moon cycle. I think you will see changes there as well. I am so glad that you have had such an amazing experience. Your experience will play a factor on the way you teach for years to come.
